SOS Systems’ ‘exceptional’ IT specialist Cameron Heath has been named Apprentice of the Year at the Gatwick Diamond Business Awards.
Cameron, now 18, joined the print and document management business two years ago, as part of the government-funded ‘Just IT’ scheme which combines on-the-job training with assignments and regular external assessments, and passed his apprenticeship with distinction.
His passion and skills prompted the Crawley-based firm to employ him full-time, and now his efforts have received wider recognition with the accolade, sponsored by Reigate and Banstead Council and presented during a ceremony at the Effingham Park Hotel in Gatwick.
The judging panel said: “It is evident that Cameron is an exceptional young man who has delivered significant value to the organisation across a very wide range of its operations, and enjoyed a great deal of personal growth during his time of employment. He is recognised as a thought leader within the organisation, but still benefits from working in a supportive environment.”
Celebrating the win, Cameron said: “It’s an amazing achievement and good to feel all my hard work has paid off. I’ve had a lot of support from great people at SOS Systems and hope to continue progressing.”
Gary Tomlinson, Head of Solutions at SOS Systems, added: “This award is testament to all of Cameron’s commitment and dedication. We’re so proud of him and will continue to support his development to ensure he continues to shine.”
Now in its 11th year, the Gatwick Diamond Business Awards celebrates people and businesses who have shown innovation and inspiration in their work, demonstrating a real commitment to the region.
